THE TEXTURE EDIT · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 23, 2026

The pleasure of a balm begins with its texture. A soft scoop that spreads under your fingertips. A firmer balm that warms as you apply it. Both belong in a thoughtful moisturizing routine; choosing between them starts with the feel you enjoy and the formula you want on your skin.

Your choice, in a moment

Choose Whipped Tallow Balm for a soft, airy format in a 120g jar. Choose Tallow Balm for a rich, solid format in 60g or 120g. These are two different recipes, each with its own ingredient list and directions.

01 / Two textures, side by side

Start with the physical experience. The solid balm has a firmer consistency and is warmed between the fingertips before application. The whipped balm has a softer, airy texture. A lighter texture in the jar does not, by itself, establish faster absorption or better results. The useful comparison is how you prefer to handle your daily moisturizer.

02 / Read the recipe, not just the name

Tallow is the common starting point. The complete blend is what makes each balm distinct. Reading the two ingredient lists together gives you a much clearer buying decision than assuming “whipped” means the same recipe with a different finish.

SOFT & WHIPPED

Whipped Tallow Balm

Beef tallow, olive fruit oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba seed oil and honey. Five listed ingredients, in a 120g jar.

The softer format is the reason to begin here if you enjoy a whipped texture. Sweet almond oil is a relevant consideration for anyone reviewing the formula for known allergies.

RICH & SOLID

Tallow Balm

Tallow, olive fruit oil, beeswax and honey. Four listed ingredients, available in 60g and 120g.

Beeswax distinguishes this blend from the whipped recipe. Choose this format if you prefer a solid balm and enjoy warming a small amount before smoothing it over the skin.

03 / Make application part of the ritual

Set aside a moment after cleansing. Use clean fingertips and begin with a small amount, following the directions on your jar. Work it gently across the intended area, avoiding direct eye contact. A careful first application helps you judge the finish without committing to a thick layer.

  1. For the solid balm: warm a small amount between your fingertips, then massage into clean, dry skin, as directed.
  2. For the whipped balm: apply a small amount with fingertips to freshly cleansed and toned face, neck and décolleté, following its label.
  3. For either format: introduce one new product at a time, notice how your skin responds, and keep the jar in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.

Your routine can be simple and still be considered. Texture preference, the area of application and the other products you use all deserve attention. Neither balm replaces your daytime sunscreen.

04 / Find your format

“I want a soft texture from the first scoop.” Start by exploring the whipped balm. Its 120g format and five-ingredient list make it a distinct option in the range.

“I prefer a firm balm and a choice of sizes.” Explore the solid balm. The 60g option offers a smaller jar; the 120g is the larger format. Both are sold under the solid-balm product listing.

“My skin is sensitive, or I have eczema.” Choose with the complete ingredient list and professional advice, rather than the texture name. Neither format is established as an eczema treatment. Our tallow and eczema section explains the distinction between moisturizing dry skin and treating a skin condition.

05 / A few care notes

Both balms contain animal-derived ingredients and honey; the solid balm also contains beeswax, and the whipped balm contains sweet almond oil. Check for ingredients you need to avoid. Patch test before wider use and stop if irritation or redness develops. The product directions recommend seeking advice first for sensitive skin or known allergies. The 60g solid-balm label advises against use during pregnancy. Follow the label on the product you receive.

Keep out of children's reach and avoid the eyes. If discomfort persists, seek medical advice. For general product-testing guidance, see the American Academy of Dermatology's instructions.
